    Trying to spread the word about one of Duluth’s best kept secrets (although I will probably regret it)… The Wine Bar that the girls at Chester Creek added… its very often empty late evening when I’m heading home after a concert or performance and will stop for a glass of wine or beer. Selection is limited on both (but not every one wants to be a Bellisios) but quality is good. Perfect after attending an event at UMD. Open till 11 (wish they were open until midnight, but maybe they will after the hordes read this? :-)

    Yeah, Chester Creek is seriously good eating (usually). The Wine Bar is relaxed. I like the limited selection as it’s more approachable. Some of their entrees are easily as good as the fancy joints on the shore.

    A while back we sampled as much as we could: wine/cheese plate, pizza, sushi, entrees, etc. The Coq au Vin (classic French stewed chicken with mushrooms, pearl onions & a thick braising jus fortified with reduced wine) could have easily come from Boulevard in San Francisco. Whoever cooked that thing put love into it. For the money that cooks make around here that is unusual and it made my week.

    The other stuff was much more predictable but solid; A little charcuterie on the wine/cheese Ap would have been nice but having no meat made it a good vegetarian option (they have many). The California roll was also far better than that pseudo hipster place downtown could ever dream of making with their suffocating corporate labor/food cost.

    Best of all, Chester Creek Cafe uses insanely good, honestly local ingredients (remember this when you get your check as your body will ultimately pay back the difference). They even have something no other restaurant in town has… three names ;)
