    2Here’s the first word on Good Thyme Restaurant in Washburn, WI. If you haven’t heard of it yet, you probably will and if you’re traveling through or staying in the Bayfield/Ashland area it’s a must. The restaurant is located just outside of Washburn, WI on 13 as you drive north to the Apostle Islands via highway 2.

    Good Thyme Restaurant has amazing energy as it is actually a large historic home (it’s past illuminated by red light similar to Grandma’s). It boasts a massive amount of beautiful land for weddings, concerts and other events. The interior is classy but the menu is approachable and affordable. The owners are extremely inviting and funny and they give it a warm light-hearted feel. It makes you want to rent one of the banquet rooms upstairs for the summer just so you can hang out with the owners and drink by the fire every night.

    3I was truly sad to leave the property today and haven’t had a feeling like that since Napa; one that evokes nights of sitting in the vineyards and orchards on a warm summer night with great friends who you can be yourself around and don’t care how buzzed you get as you gorge yourselves on triple cream cheeses and fatty pate. Basically, it’s a sense of culture and community which is hard to capture in a restaurant. It’s akin to taking a quick vacation to Europe. Apparently they will soon have bocce ball, croquet and all kinds of fun stuff including a self described “man bar” (an outdoor “den” complete with a fire pit, beer & scotch among other things). Across the property and just off the kitchen they will have a casual Nantucket-inspired patio with a smoker… even live pigs and other great stuff for entertaining adults and keeping kids happy and quiet.

    4The Chef has solid prior experience in Minneapolis and the food appeared to be well-crafted and unpretentious. It’s a unique experience that’s diffiucult to explain in words after a long day on the road. Thus, I’ll have a video of my time there later next week and we’ll do some sort of review over the summer when they’ve perfected things even more.

    Go check it out… it’ll make you smile, guaranteed. ;)
